The author is a specialist teacher assessor, working with dyslexia, dyspraxia (DCD), autistic spectrum and ADHD. She has experience in the world of business, as well as education and has extensive experience as a support tutor. This book is an evolution from her previous book, The Dyspraxic Learner, which was written before she was diagnosed with dyspraxia. In the introduction, Patrick explains the rationale behind writing the book, based on her awareness that there were no easy solutions for students struggling with issues with processing speed, memory and processing. The book focuses on issues including auditory and visual processing, verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning and executive functions and the author’s stated aum is to make the memory and processing aspects of SpLD’s accessible to students, and to parents. Organised in four parts, the content includes, for example:

The book also includes resources covering revision, memory strategies, foreign language work, organisation and whiteboard planning. Key tips summarise the main points and the author provides links to resources and strategies to support a holistic approach to assisting students to learn how they can learn best and make studying and revision more effective.
