Swimmers of all ages and abilities are being called upon to organise their own one mile swim event in aid of learning disability charity Mencap.

Following on from the charity’s national sponsored Mencap Mile event, the challenge to swim a mile of a local swimming pool can be done individually, with a group of friends, or organised through a swimming group.

The event is being supported by DJ Jo Whiley, who is an ambassador for the charity. “I used to swim competitively when I was younger and still love it. I can think of no better way to raise much needed funds”, said Ms Wiley.

Everyone who takes part in the event will receive a fundraising pack, training guidelines, and a
swimming cap. There will also be a prize from Executive Perks awarded to the best fundraiser in 2011.
