GB medal haul at Euro Special Olympics

The Great Britain Special Olympics team have returned from the fifth European Summer Games in Poland with an impressive 88 medals.

This September, a delegation of 66 coaches and learning disabled athletes took part in the week long sporting event in the Polish capital, Warsaw, joining a total of 1500 athletes and 600 coaches from 56 European and Eurasian countries. The GB team took part in athletics, badminton, table tennis, tennis, ten pin bowling and power lifting and its medal haul was made up of 36 Gold, 29 Silver and 23 Bronze Medals.

“We are delighted with the results,” said GB Head of Delegation Laura Smith, “but Medals are not the most important thing. It is the participation itself that makes the Special Olympics really special. All of them are winners.”
