Online community for deaf young people

A new website has been launched to help combat the social isolation often felt by deaf young people. The Buzz is the biggest online website for deaf young people and has been developed in response to a consultation with almost 1,500 deaf young people which revealed that 90 per cent want more opportunities to meet other deaf people.

The site is accessible to deaf children between the ages of eight and eighteen years and includes details of events across the UK, stories about deaf role models and information and advice on issues such as bullying and sexual health.

Susan Daniels, Chief Executive of the National Deaf Children’s Society, the organisation behind the new website, said: “By bringing deaf children together, the Buzz is an important resource for improving their emotional well-being and building their confidence”.
