A new internet resource to help schools improve children’s safety and wellbeing has been introduced by the NSPCC. Improving Safeguarding in Schools (ISIS) is an online self-assessment and development resource which guides schools through the process of auditing how they are meeting safety standards.

The standards used by ISIS have been cross-referenced with the Ofsted self-evaluation form and the National Healthy Schools framework. ISIS also includes development tools for schools, including action plans and examples of best practice.

The NSPCC hopes that the new online system will help school staff and governors by building their confidence and skills base, and reassure parents and carers that the school is actively involved in improving safeguarding standards. “With around eight million children attending more than 25,000 schools in England, teachers and other education professionals have a major role to play”, said the NSPCC’s Head of Safeguarding in Education Service, Jo Scherer-Thompson.
