Truman Clare Truman is an experienced special needs teacher, specialising in autism and she is also the founder of a social enterprise and alternative education provision , supporting children with PDA. Her interest in this field was sparked when growing up as a big sister to a brother with autism. The book is a practical and supportive guide, where the author speaks directly to the reader and provides worked examples of useful and not so useful strategies for working with students with PDA. The activities provided are aimed to make the students feel more at ease, and, consequently, more able to learn. These are guided by an ethos that is based on being flexible, child-led and collaborative. Truman makes the point that this approach can be used for all class members and helps develop autonomy and an inquiring approach to learning. A really useful and practical introduction to this field.
