More than 9,000 new foster carers will be needed in 2013.

Fostering organisations across the country will be marking May’s Foster Care Fortnight by calling on people from all walks of life to consider becoming foster parents.

The annual fostering campaign to raise awareness and recruit new carers will take place this year from Monday 13 to Sunday 26 May 2013.
Organisers, the Fostering Network, say that at least 9,000 new families will be needed in 2013 as the number of looked after children continues to rise. With more and more children with statements of SEN in care, the need for foster carers with the desire and skills to meet these children’s needs is particularly profound.

The Network are asking those interested in fostering to visit: www.couldyoufoster.org.uk

The next issue of SEN Magazine (out end of April 2013) will include an article by Dominic Stevenson of the Fostering Network on what it takes to foster, including a useful ten-step guide to becoming a foster carer.
