nasen, the UK association for special educational needs, has announced that Lorraine Petersen OBE will step down as its CEO at the end of October 2013.

Mrs Petersen joined nasen as a volunteer in 1995 and held various positions before being appointed CEO in 2004. She has been responsible for heading-up the organisation’s strategic development and raising its profile in the UK and internationally. As an advocate for the rights of children with SEN, Mrs Petersen has been an influential voice on the conference circuit and in Westminster. She was awarded the OBE for services to education in 2009.

Stephen Bajdala-Brown, nasen’s chair of trustees, said that Lorraine Petersen will leave “an incredibly positive and lasting impact on the organisation, and those it supports.”

nasen is expected to announce a new Chief Executive in the autumn.
