A new project to help young people with Duchenne as they progress into adulthood has been introduced by Action Duchenne.

The National Lottery-funded scheme, Takin’ Charge, will seek to help teenagers with the condition to learn life skills and plan for what they want to do in the future. It will cover a wide range of issues, including healthy eating, fitness, sex and IT.

The project was launched at the charity’s recent international conference, where young people with Duchenne were able to quiz a panel of experts on the condition. The panel included Professor Steve Wilton from the University of Western Australia, Dr Ros Quinlivan and Dr Anton Emmanuel from Great Ormond Street Hospital, and older people living with Duchenne.

Dr Janet Hoskin, Manager of the Takin’ Charge Project, said that “It was fantastic to see so many young people taking responsibility and asking meaningful questions”.
