A new campaign to raise awareness about Duchenne muscular dystrophy is being launched by the charity Action Duchenne. The Seeds of Hope campaign, which will run from the end of March into April 2011, will encourage children from schools, communities, villages and housing estates all over the country to get outside into their gardens or local parks and grow sunflower seeds. The aim is to help children with Duchenne by raising awareness and generating funds to help find a cure.

The campaign is also being presented by the charity as an antidote to what it sees as the prevailing “stay indoors/computer gaming culture” and as an attempt to encourage children to help improve the environment.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a severe muscle wasting disease and most diagnosed children are restricted to wheelchairs very early in their short lives.
