DJ Eddy Temple-Morris has called on all children and young people to guard against excessive exposure to loud music. In an open letter issued in advance of February’s Tinnitus Awareness Week, the XFM DJ and producer said that “81 per cent of people don’t realise that they can permanently damage their hearing after just fifteen minutes of exposure to loud music”.

Himself a tinnitus sufferer, Mr Temple-Morris revealed that the the majority of his friends and colleagues in the music industry are also affected by the condition, and his own hearing problems were, at one time, so severe that he couldn’t sleep at night and became ill as a result.

“I was fortunate” the radio star added, “that a colleague, who’d developed a 40 per cent  hearing loss through exposure to loud music, advised me to wear hearing protection. It’s fair to say my life changed completely as a result.”
Eddy Temple-Morris is an ambassador of the British Tinnitus Association. For further information, visit:
