Families, teachers and professionals who live and work with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) have a new resource available which should make it easier for them to involve those with PMLD in decisions affecting their lives.

A new toolkit, produced by charity Mencap, provides a range of resources that will help people with PMLD take part in decisions about their lives, such as what to wear, how they spend their time and where they live.

The Involve Me resource pack consists of a short booklet which summarises the project and a practical guide with an interactive DVD and resources. The pack demonstrates how creative approaches such as sharing stories and peer advocacy can be used to involve people in decision making.

The project is supported by the Renton Foundation and is being run by Mencap in partnership with the British Institute of Learning Disabilities.

The Involve Me resource is available at no cost for a limited period at: www.mencap.org.uk/involveme
