The majority of legislation under the Equality Act 2010 came into force on 1 October. The Act consolidates existing equality law with the aim of making it easier to understand, and extends protection to some groups so that they are treated more fairly.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has launched an online starter guide to help private, public and voluntary sector organisations understand their obligations under the Equality Act. The guide includes nine bite-size learning modules that set out the essential points of the legislation.
